Aces take a 2-0 lead over the Mercury

Aces Jackie Young (0) dribbling by the Mercury’s Kahleah Copper (2) in game 2 of the WNBA Finals.

This past Tuesday was the start of the WNBA Finals between the LV Aces and the Phoenix Mercury. The Mercury were fresh after having a few extra days off compared to the Aces. On Tuesday, many could see the difference in freshness as the Mercury jumped out to a 16-point lead right from the start of the game and the series. The Aces looked a little tired, including the big three: A’Ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray. While the Aces struggled to catch up, the Mercury could not miss. But as many say, it takes a village to win a championship, and the Aces village showed up with Jewell Llyod and Dana Evans coming in clutch off the bench. They both combined to score 38 points. By the fourth quarter, the Mercury did not have an answer for the Aces’ bench production, and after a couple of costly missed free throws by the Mercury, the Aces were able to take game 1: 89-86. In Game Two, the Aces dominated the Mercury from the very beginning. This time around, the Aces’ big three woke up and combined for a total of 70 out of their 91 points. The Aces’ Jackie Young set a new WNBA Finals record by scoring 21 of her 32 points in just one quarter, the most points scored in one quarter. Now the next two games will be in Phoenix, and the key is will the Mercury will be able to take advantage of playing at home and come back to tie the Series 2-2? Tune in to ESPN this Wednesday for Game 3 of the WNBA Finals.

NWSL Playoffs

The next team that made playoff contention is Washington Spirit! With Trinity Rodman being out in the beginning due to back injury, they were able to conquer. They are second place and comfortably away from the 3rd place team. There are only a couple of weeks left until playoffs and it is crunch time for some of these teams. Only 8 teams make it out of the 14 teams and some teams are close to getting kicked out of 7 and 8 place. Who will be the remaining 6 teams? We will see in these upcoming weeks.
