Brazil Wins Copa America and NWSL is back!

This Copa America tournament has been nothing but excitement. This tournament is always known for team’s physicality and determination. The final was played on Saturday August 2nd and it was Brazil vs Colombia. The game was intense and physical the entire 90 minutes. Colombia scored first and Brazil was struggling to get back into it. Then they received a penalty kick which was hit in the back of the net before halftime. Starting 1-1, both teams were fighting to score when Brazil scored an own goal after a pass went back to the keeper. Keeper was elsewhere and there was no way of stopping that goal in. Then with 10 minutes left Brazil scored to equalize and the score was now 2-2. In the 88th minute, Colombia’s Linda assisted Ramirez on her go ahead goal. But with 6 minutes of extra time, all Colombia had to do was hold the ball and not give them shooting opportunities. Brazil had a corner in the 95th minute, their last hope of taking the game to overtime. The ball was cleared to outside of the box and Marta with determination sliced it past the defense and scored making her goal literally the last kick of regulation. This made the game go into overtime. In the 105th minute, Marta again scored and was able to give Brazil the lead for the first time in the entire game. Now Brazil had to hold the ball and hold off until the whistle blew. Unfortunately, 10 minutes later, Colombia scored off a beautiful free kick and equalized it to 4-4. Now the inevitable penalty kicks, Brazil was the first to kick. The first round, both teams made it effortlessly. The second round, Brazil missed and Colombia made it. The third round, Brazil made it and Colombia missed it high and wide. Now being tied in the 4th round, Brazil made it and Colombia’s kicked is stopped by the keeper. Now the last round, Marta is able to win this by scoring but is saved by the keeper. Colombia had to score this in order to go to sudden death and it was no issue for her. For sudden death, the 6th round where both teams made it. The 7th round is where it ended when Colombia’s penalty kick was saved by the keeper. If Colombia, would have won this would have been the 1st time in history. This game was a nail biter.

NWSL Key highlights: Trinity Rodman is back and scored the winning goal against Portland Thorns. Ally Sentnor traded to KC Current for Utah to receive $600,000 intra-league transfer funds. This sets a new record for an NWSL transfer.
