As TCU climbs up the rankings in women’s college hoops. Most of that success can be traced back to the amazing start of 5th-year senior Hailey Van Lith. If you are wondering why this name seems familiar, then you may recall Hailey Van Lith, or HVL for short, from when she played at LSU last year. She lost in the elite eight to none other than Caitlin Clark and Iowa. HVL has always been a great player, but when she transferred from Louisville to play her 4th year at LSU with Angel Reese, many questioned if it would be the right fit for her. At Louisville, she was the main star and was allowed to play freely, but when she moved to LSU, it was obvious the system that coach Mulkey ran was not fitting for her. This caused her game stats to plummet from avg. 20+ points a game to less than 10 points a game. In the off-season, it was obvious that HVL would transfer her 5th year, and when she announced her transfer to TCU, it broke the internet. Since the start of the season, though, TCU has been on fire, and once again, HVL is back on her game. She has already scored 44 points in a game, recorded her first career triple-double, and helped TCU upset number 3 Notre Dame 76-68 this past Friday. So far, HVL is averaging 19.9 points per game and looks to be back on track to getting her WNBA draft stock back up after her down year at LSU.
USWNT Travel to Europe
US Midfielder Lindsey Horan scored against England goalkeeper Mary Earps but the goal was later disallowed for Offsides.
To close out the year, the USWNT went to Europe to play their final friendlies against England and the Netherlands. The first game was against England on Saturday, November 30th, and it was a return back to Wembley, this time with new head coach Emma Hayes, who is from England. The last time the US was at Wembley, it ended in a 2-1 loss, with multiple goals being disallowed due to offsides. This time around was a little different as Emma Hayes returned to her home country, now as a head coach of the top nation in the world and the 2024 USA Olympic gold medalist. This game was not her welcome home game, but Emma was battling against Sarina Wiegman, a 2x Euro Champion and 2019 FIFA WC finalist. The game of two elite coaching minds was a back-and-forth battle that ended in a 0-0 scoreline. The mutual respect from both coaches was expressed after the game, and while the game may have ended 0-0, the intensity was still present as both teams had chances to score, but both keepers were up to the challenge. Emma Hayes is still undefeated in her time so far with the US and is looking to end the year with a win over the Netherlands this Tuesday, December 3rd. The Dutch are nother tough team that are lpooking to rebound after a few down years. Will the US be able to close this amazing year with another win or will they be upset by the dutch in a famous rematch game of the 2019 FIFA WC final.
