USWNT powered past Iceland, securing an impressive victory with standout plays across the field. There were new faces that joined the team for this international break: Yazmeen Ryan, Hailie Mace, Emily Sams, Emma Sears, and Hal Hershfelt. The US played against Iceland on October 24th and October 27th of this past week. On October 24th, young star Alyssa Thompson scored her first international goal for the USWNT, it was an absolute banger in the 39th minute. Then less than ten minutes out of halftime Iceland responded back tying the game on the 54th minute. Several subs were put in for both teams to see if someone would be a game changer. Finally, Jaedyn Shaw in the 85th minute, was able to cut through the defense and make it a 2-1 game. This made it two teenagers scoring on the night for the US team. The US was not done because on the 88th minute Sophia Smith sealed it with a goal. It was a good game for both teams. On Sunday, October 27th, Emily Sams and Yazmeen Ryan got their first cap and start for the US team. Seven changes were made in this line up so it was an entirely different dynamic. It was an entirely different game with Iceland scoring first in the 31st minute by an Olympico goal ( which is a goal scored straight from the person taking the corner) Iceland’s first corner kick on the match. At halftime, Emma Hayes made several substitutes to push for the win. Luckily in the 72nd minute those subs proved to be the right move as forward Lynn Williams (substitute) slots it in for the tie 1-1. After that the US started picking up some momentum and just four minutes later midfielder Lindsey Horan scores to make it 2-1 in the 76th minute. It doesn’t end there folks! In the 93rd minute, Emma Sears scores for her first cap and goal. Now the US remains unbeaten in 12 match since Emma Hayes took cover.

NWSL X Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup

The summer cup came to an end on Friday, October 25th. The final match was set with KC Current vs Gotham FC. KC Current beat Gotham FC 2-0 for the final. It shouldn’t surprise anyone at all that the player that scored both goals was Temwa Chawinga! The goals were scored in the first half and Gotham with much effort were not able to score. This is the first time the summer cup has been held and hopefully it will happen again next year. It was good to see both leagues combining and bringing competition across borders.

Coaching Shakeup: WNBA Teams Make Bold Moves

There have been several coaches that have been fired due to performance of last seasons. The first being Curt Miller from the LA Sparks on September 24th. Then two days later, Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was let go. Angel Reese made a statement of shock and empathy for her former coach. To continue the firing, Atlanta Dream let go of their head coach Tanisha Wright and Dallas Wings fired Latricia Trammell. Then Washington and Indiana let go of their head coach. The question remains if there are more coaches that are getting sacked. These teams want to win and to replace the coach could be a step in the right direction.
