With the International break upon us, this week the NWSL took the weekend off while players went back to their respective countries to compete in friendlies. For the USWNT, it was another chance to give new players a chance to prove themselves at the national level. With the women’s World Cup just two years away, these are the opportunities coaches get to prepare a list of players for their potential roster. This roster is a little unique because it features KC Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta, who at 32 years old could be the oldest player to get their first cap for the US. With this intriguing roster, the USWNT had to battle against China PR in their first friendly. On Saturday in Saint Paul, MN, the two teams battled it out for 90 minutes. China PR gave the US a tough fight for a while, but in the end, the US was able to defeat them 3-0. This win also included history with LaBonta getting her first-ever career cap in the 70th minute. As we mentioned earlier, she is now the oldest player to receive her first USA cap, proving that you are never too old. The USWNT will play their next final this Tuesday, June 3rd, in St.Louis, MO, against Jamaica, a CONCACAF foe. So tune in at 5 pm MST to see if the US can go two for two during this international break.
