This weekend, three of the world’s best female athletes were inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Maya Moore, Sue Bird, and Sylvia Fowles were this year’s female athlete inductees. Between these players is a total of 10 WNBA championships, 4 NCAA basketball championships, and 2 WNBA MVP trophies, so as you can see, these ladies did nothing but win at every level. Sue Bird spent her entire 20-year career with the Seattle Storm, winning four WNBA championships. After retiring, she joined the Storm Ownership team to give back to the team that had given so much to her. Sylvia Fowles had a successful 15-year career with the Chicago Sky and the Minnesota Lynx, winning two WNBA championships in 2015 and 2017, and also earning the Finals MVP award in both years. Alongside Sylvia during those championship years was Maya Moore, a true definition of having “ice in their veins.” Maya won two championships at UCONN, and in just an eight-year career, she won four WNBA championships and one league MVP. Maya literally spent half of her WNBA career lifting trophies. Three women who changed the game and brought eyes to the sport of basketball got the recognition they deserved. All three of these legendary athletes leave legacies that help pave the way for the future of women’s sports and the WNBA.

After tearing up the NWSL at just 20 years old, Angel City FC star Alyssa Thompson is going to Chelsea for a 1.1 million transfer fee. Chelsea had been showing interest in the Winger for a while and wanted to make a move before the transfer window closed. Many Angel City fans were shocked at the move, as many thought Thompson would finish out the season with them while they stayed in the hunt for a playoff spot. She joins her fellow USWNT teammates Macario and Girma at Chelsea and also joins the list of Americans who are now playing overseas. Even though the NWSL is nearing the end of its season, for Chelsea, their season in the WSL is just starting, which is good news for Thompson, giving her a full season to work into the starting line-up and build connections with her new teammates. Make sure to tune in to the WSL and Women’s Champions League to see how Aylssa Thompson adapts to the European style of soccer.

On September 7th, 2025, San Diego Wave retired Alex Morgan’s iconic #13 jersey. At 7 years old, Alex Morgan wanted to be a professional soccer player and never thought she would have her jersey retired. This is a historic event because this is the first jersey that has been retired in this club’s history. When Alex Morgan first joined the San Diego Wave, she wanted to make a statement, especially with this team being in her hometown. In the first two years of the club, they were able to make playoff contention and second year win the shield. Alex Morgan ended up retiring in her third year due to pregnancy. Now, for the fourth year, she is the co-owner of this club and runs a foundation. She helped pave the way for younger girls to achieve anything they want.
