This past Saturday, the KC Current traveled to California to battle a struggling Bay FC. Heading into the game, KC's Current star forward was on record-setting alert all across the NWSL as she was only one goal away from setting a new scoring record. Last weekend, we mentioned that she was already tied with Sam Kerr with 18 Goals scored in a single season, so it was almost given that we would be writing about her again. The Current, who are already in the playoffs, are just trying to focus on bettering their form, so Saturday's game against the struggling Bay FC was not taken lightly. Temwa was firing right out the gate, having multiple opportunities, but her moment arrived in the 35th minute when she took the ball from a Bay FC midfielder, she dribbled quickly down the field and cut in to take a shot from a distance that zipped past the goalkeeper, finding the back of the net. The team swallowed her up with excitement as they celebrated her historic accomplishment together. The record-setting goal would go on to be the game-winning goal as the current would win 1-0. Temwa Chawinga now has 19 goals scored on the season, and still, there are a few more games to go before the playoffs start, which means she can very well still add to that record.

Orlando Suffer their First Loss of the Season

The Orlando Pride were so close to finishing the season undefeated, but last Friday, a trip to Portland brought that dream to an end. Friday night, the Pride traveled to Portland, Oregon, to take on the Thrones in what is always a classic showdown, especially considering the fact it is a battle between two women soccer Goats in Marta and Sinclair. From the start of the game, it seemed like there was just something in the air for the Thorns as they came out on fire, scoring first in the 13th minute. It soon seemed like the Throns were just too much to handle as right after halftime, the Goat Christin Sinclair scored in the 55th minute, the stadium went wild as the veteran Sinclair scored at home in what was her last season before retirement. The game ended in a 2-0 win for the Thrones and a one in the loss column for the Orlando Pride. The Orlando Pride have a chance to bounce back next week against Gotham FC.

This past week has been eventful for the WNBA Playoffs. On Tuesday, the Lynx won game five against the Connecticut Sun and solidified their spot in the finals. But with the Lynx going to game five, it meant that they had to turn around and play game one on Thursday against a rested New York Liberty in NYC. Game one was easily the game of the year as a tired Lynx team battled back to win game one in OT after Brianna Stewart Missed a contested lay-up in the last seconds of OT. Fast forward to game two, which was this past Sunday, and it was clear that the Liberty were determined not to go down 0-2. What makes the Liberty such a hard team to beat is the depth they have. Even though Sabrina only scored 2 points in the second half, other players like Betnijah Laney-Hamilton had 20 pts, and Breanna Stewart had 21 pts. It was a team effort, and the crowd played along, giving the Liberty energy when the game got close at times. In the end, the Liberty were able to pull away and get the 80-66 win over the Lynx. This ties the series 1-1, as games three and four will be in Minnesota. Both teams now have a chance to win it all. Will Minnesota be able to close out the Liberty and win it all in Minnesota? Will the Liberty be able to do the same to the Lynx and break their hearts at their home court or will both teams split and force a game five back in NYC, stay tuned to see how it all plays out.
