The NY Liberty are the 2024 WNBA Champions
The New York Liberty has done it! They earned the franchise’s first-ever WNBA Championship. From the very beginning of the season, the Liberty made it clear that they were going to get back to the finals after a crushing game 4 loss to the Las Vegas Aces. As the season went on, it was clear that they meant business. The Liberty was the number-one team in the WNBA for the majority of the season and went into the finals as the number-one overall seed. In the first round, the Liberty handled the Atlanta Dream sweeping the series 2-0. In the semi-finals, they had a finals rematch against the Las Vegas Aces. The revenge was evident in the way they played. The Liberty overpowered and Breanna Stewart said in a post-game conference that she “ remembered the things they (Aces) said last year when they won”, and she used that as fuel for the series. The Liberty were able to handle the Aces in 4 games allowing them to get some rest as they waited to see who they would play in the finals. On the other side, the Lynx were working their way back to the Finals for the first time since 2017. The Lynx were the only team to sweep the Liberty all season, including a win over the Liberty in the Commissioners Cup. The Finals match-up was set, and it was indeed one of the best Finals ever in the WNBA. The series went to a game five where Sunday night, the world tuned in to see a historic game five. At the start, the Lynx were on fire and went into the half up, but after the half, it was like a switch went off for the Liberty. They got their first lead of the night in the 3rd quarter thanks to the bench and more specifically Nyara Sabally. Who was one of the top scores for the Liberty playing just seventeen minutes Although it seemed like the Liberty were pulling away, the Lynx fought hard to get the lead, but with a pair of Breanna Stewart free throws, the game went into overtime, tied 60-60. In overtime, it was all Liberty, and as time on the clock ran out for the Lynx, the celebration began for the Liberty. Who won the first-ever WNBA Championship in franchise history. Legendary Liberty player and ex-Chicago head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was in attendance and was brought to tears as she watched her former team win it all. The Liberty waited 28 years to lift the trophy, and New York-born and raised star Breanna Stewart was able to lift the trophy. With every WNBA Finals, there is a Finals MVP, and this year’s Final MVP was Liberty’s Jonquil Jones, who averaged 17 points and eight rebounds, helping the Liberty win it all. This WNBA season was a historic one. With records being broken and viewership growing with every game, it has been a season to remember. With that, we bring a close to the 2024 WNBA season and huge congrats to the 2024 WNBA Champions the New York Liberty!!

Gotham FC gets Win in the Farewell game for Kelley O’Hara
Sunday evening in the NWSL was a big dog match-up between the number 1 team, Orlando Pride and Gotham FC. While Orlando Pride was coming off their first loss of the season to Portland Thorn last weekend, Gotham had been on a six-game unbeaten streak with five wins and one tie. This game had a lot in store because the last loss Gotham FC had was to Orlando Pride. But for Gotham, getting revenge was not the only reason they wanted a win; this game was also the send-off game for legendary USWNT player Kelley O’Hara. Although this was not her last game, she announced in May that this would be her last season as she will retire at the end of the 2024 NWSL season. With everything Gotham was playing for, they had all the fuel they needed to dominate Orlando Pride. By dominate we mean they were able to get their revenge and then some by handing Orlando their second loss of the season and second in a row by a score of 3-1. After the game, Gotham celebrated Kelley O’Hara by showing a tribute video of her family, friends, and fiancé expressing their words on Kelley's special career. Her accolades include 2x FIFA WC Champion, 2011 FIFA WC runner-up, 2012 Olympic Gold Medal, and 2020 Olympic Bronze medal. A career worth celebrating. Thank you Kelley O’Hara for all the amazing moments over the years.
