The finals have been set! Washington Spirit vs Orlando Pride. Over the weekend, the semi-finals were played to determined who would go to the championship next Saturday.

The first game was on Saturday where Washington Spirit played against NY Gotham. What a game that was! Gotham scored in the 56th minute with a header from forward Esther Gonzalez and the Spirit were looking for ways to equalize. Going into the 90th minute, Spirit were desperate to score a goal. That’s when Nighswonger from Gotham commits a foul on the right side of the penalty box for a free kick in the 90+3 minute. This free kick is centered and Hershfelt scores it with a header to toe the game 1-1 and sends things into OT. In OT, things started to get heated and in the 100 minute, Bruninha (Gotham) fouled Trinity Rodman (Spirit) and received her second yellow equaling a red card and an exit from the game. This becomes crucial because now Gotham is short 1 player with 20 minutes left to play. After much battling back and forth they go into penalties. Kingsbury comes in clutch and blocked the first three penalty attempts for them to move on into the final. The first three kickers for Spirit breezed by against Berger.

The second game was Sunday Orlando Pride vs KC Current. This was an exceptional game against two very tough teams. The first to score was KC current in the 33rd minute. Not much longer after that in the 41st minute, Orlando responded back equalizing the score. Then right after halftime, Banda gives them the boost they need with a quick strike in the 53rd minute. The game still tense as KC was looking for a chance to tie things up again, when in the 82nd minute the GOAT Marta scored a solo goal in style. The goal was like watching Marta in her prime dribbling with great speed and making her defenders look silly. Now down 3-1, KC Current was behind two goals to equalize. In extra time, KC Current was awarded a penalty and was able to catch up 3-2. That still wasn’t enough to beat Orlando Pride. For the first time Orlando Pride has advanced to the NWSL championship game.

This fight was a rematch from two years again when Taylor defeated Serrano at Madison Square Garden. This fight was the most intense and most anticipated fight in women’s boxing. Serrano came up three division in order to fight and came up short. There has been some controversy over the fight’s final score, but both women put up a fight. In Round 3, Taylor and Serrano bumped heads and that resulted in Serrano’s cut above her eye to open up. It became difficult throughout the fight and Taylor got deducted a point for the head butt clash. Taylor won despite Serrano being the busier fight and outpacing Taylor.
