USWNT On to The Semi-Finals
The USWNT are on their way to the semifinals of the Olympics after a 1-0 win over Japan. On Wednesday, July 31st USA closed group play going undefeated with a 3-0 record for the first time since the 2012 London Olympics. This past Saturday’s battle with Japan added to the historic battle between these two countries. The build-up to this game started back in the 2011 World Cup when Japan defeated USWNT in the final match then the following year USA was able to get revenge and win the London Olympic gold. These two countries met again in the 2015 World Cup where the USA won 5-2 courtesy of a Carli Lloyd hat trick in just 2 minutes and 11 seconds. Back to the present day, USA VS Japan was the first match of the quarterfinals. Emma Hayes started a similar starting eleven with the exception of Coffey who due to yellow card accumulation had to miss one game and Davidson who abstained from an injury in the last group stage game vs Australia. The first half was defiantly lacking excitement and thrill. Japan dropped back to play defense allowing the US to keep possession, this game style resulted in the US keeping the ball in their half and not being able to break down Japan to get any scoring opportunities. The second half was very similar and when the final whistle blew both teams were preparing to go to overtime after a 0-0 scoreline. Towards the end of the first OT Trinity Rodman received a pass to the outside, she collected and took two more touches toward the goal, and then with a strike of her left foot she scored the game-winning goal in the 105’ +2min of first half OT!!!! The shot itself was a thing of beauty even she couldn’t believe it went in. The final whistle blew at the end of the second OT and USWNT could celebrate making it to the semi-final match which gives them a chance to fight for a medal guaranteed. Now the question is which medal will they get. The USWNT will play Germany in a rematch from group play where the US won 4-1. Semi-finals begin on Tuesday, August 6th at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET.

Well, they have done just that winning five games in a row against the likes of China, France, and Spain. With this amazing streak, the US is now 5-3 and the journey for Olympic gold continues today at 8:30 am PT/ 11:30 am ET.

She earned another gold on the 1500 M freestyle, beating second place by 10 seconds. She earned silver on the 4×200M Freestyle relay, and finally bronze on the 400m freestyle. With such a remarkable career hopefully she can push through another four year to compete on home soil in the 2028 LA Olympics.
