Women’s Euros 2025 Begins

Mark your calendar because this week, on July 2nd, the Women’s Euros 2025 begins in the beautiful country of Switzerland. This tournament is very similar to the FIFA WC, just a bit more region-specific. The Euros are a major tournament that happens every four years to determine which country is the best in Europe. Before this tournament, many countries had to battle it out. In Euro qualifying games because only 16 teams are allowed in this tournament to ensure that only the strongest countries get the chance to call themselves Champions of Europe. This year’s tournament will be hosted in Switzerland, a host nation that looks to win their first ever European Trophy, but the defending Champs, England, stand in their way. The countries have been split into four groups of four, with one group seemingly being referred to as the “group of death”. The group of death includes: England, Netherlands, France, and Wales. England and the Netherlands have both won the tournament, with England winning in 2022 and the Netherlands winning in 2017. You cannot forget about the French. With all this strength in one group, many fans are worried for Wales as this will be their first tournament. Regardless of the strength in each group, only two teams will be able to make it to the knockout round, and only the best will survive. You can tune to watch all the drama unfold on Fox Sports here in the US. The tournament will go from July 2nd-July 27th, which means you will have plenty of amazing soccer to watch.

This week, the USWNT was back in action against Ireland. On Thursday night, they played the first of two friendlies against Ireland at Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Colorado. As we mentioned last week, Rose Lavelle was back in a USA jersey, and for her first game back, she got the start. The USA looked amazing with a young line-up and fresh legs. The players played as one, but Lavelle played as if she were never out. She recorded an assist and a goal to help the US beat Ireland 4-0. Then on Sunday in Cincinnati, OH, Emma Hayes put out a whole new line-up and was still able to get the same result, another 4-0 win over the Irish. The talent pool that Emma Hayes has to choose from has shown that it will not be easy for her to make that final World Cup roster in two years. Although for now, she is making sure to prepare for the future with each camp and game they get. Their next opponent will be a familiar foe, Canada. They will play this Wednesday at 4:30 pm MT on TNT.
