This past weekend was the kick-off for the WNBA preseason. After a week of minicamp, coaches and players were able to get a taste of some gametime action. Every team in the WNBA has a new team after off-season trades and the recent draft picks. As mentioned last week, every team has stacked rosters. These preseason games aren’t just to get some games in, but for many rookies and returners, it is their only chance to prove they belong in the league. What makes this year’s preseason more exciting is that all games were made available to watch on TV. For many years, fans were only able to see one or two games on national TV. If they wanted to see more, they had to pay. Fans were also excited to see the homecoming games that were on the schedule. Players like Caitlin Clark, Jewell Lloyd, Arike Ogunbowale, and Jackie Young got to play at their alma mater. The very first game was between the Dallas Wings and the Las Vegas Aces, which was hosted at Notre Dame. The Aces were able to get the 112-78 win over Dallas, but for the Fighting Irish alums like Jewell, Jackie, and Arike, it was good to be back where it all started for them. Now, Caitlin Clark had to wait a few days to play her homecoming game. On Sunday, she made her debut as the Indiana Fever played against the Brazilian national team at Iowa University. The crowd went wild as Caitlin, although in a new jersey, still played on that court like it was home. Caitlin gave the crowd what they wanted as she hit her famous logo threes in their 108-44 win over Brazil. The WNBA preseason continues this Tuesday with a three-game slate starting at 4 pm/7 pm ET.

Friday night was just the start of week 7 action in the NWSL, but it included one of the most action-packed games so far this season. Angel City FC took the trip to Washington, DC to play the Spirit. This game went back and forth, with there being a total of 7 goals scored between the two teams. Angel City opened the scoring in the 8th minute, and the Spirit was able to respond in the 30th minute. The goals continued to come for both teams, but none more important than the goal scored by ACFC’s Giselle Thompson in the 22nd minute. This goal was historic because it was the first ever sister to sister connection on a goal in NWSL history. Alyssa Thompson took off down the sideline on one of her epic runs, and when she went to cross the ball, the only other Angel City player was her little sister, Giselle. She was able to connect on the cross through two defenders and score her first-ever professional goal. It was a wholesome moment as the sisters embraced each other to celebrate not only the goal but also making their dream connection come true.
NWSL Week 7 Scoreline:
San Diego Wave 2-1 Bay FC
Chicago Stars 0-0 Gotham FC
Angel City FC 4-3 Washington Spirit
Portland 1-0 Orlando
NC Courage 2-0 Utah Royals
Seattle Reign 1-0 KC Current
Racing Louisville 2-1 Houston Dash
